Over 90% of Tajikistan is mountain. The Pamir plateau — the highest in the world — sits above 3,600 metres. The Wakhan Valley has been a crossroads for 2,000 years. The Fann Mountains are some of the most spectacular, least-visited trekking terrain on earth. We've been guiding here for a decade.

Where to Go
The world's second-highest road, running 1,200km through otherworldly plateau landscape. Passes Karakul Lake, Murghab, and into the Wakhan Corridor.
An ancient corridor between the Hindu Kush and Pamir. Silk Road caravans, Zoroastrian fire temples, Afghan mountains visible across the river.
A compact range of turquoise alpine lakes and 5,000m peaks in northwest Tajikistan. The best trekking in the country for non-technical climbers.
A Soviet city reinventing itself. Wide boulevards, excellent plov, the National Museum, and the world's tallest flagpole.
What to Do
Before You Go
Getting There
Dushanbe has direct flights from Moscow, Istanbul, Dubai, and several Central Asian capitals. No direct flights from Western Europe — typically 1 stop via Istanbul (Turkish Airlines) or Dubai (FlyDubai).
Visa
Most nationalities can apply for an e-visa at evisa.tj in 3–5 working days. Cost around $50 USD. Citizens of Russia, CIS states, and some others are visa-free.
Health
No mandatory vaccinations. Altitude sickness is the main risk in the Pamirs — acclimatise at Dushanbe (800m) before ascending. Travel insurance with medical evacuation cover is essential.
Money
USD and EUR can be exchanged easily in Dushanbe. Outside the capital, cash (Tajik Somoni) is essential — ATMs are rare in the Pamirs.
